I just got nominated for the Knot's best of 2009 weddings! The nomination comes from the wedding I photographed in December during the blizzard. It was in old town Alexandria and due to the snow just about all the vendors canceled. However the entire bridal party came together and made it happen and it turned out to be a wonderful event!

Today we received over 2 feet of snow. I was at my volunteer fire company for the duration of the storm. While I was there I was able to capture some fun photos.

Fredericksburg Bridal Show

Jeff & Stephanie's Wedding - Charlotte, NC

Here are some photos from Jeff and Stephanie's wedding in Charlotte, NC. This was the smallest wedding I have ever photographed. There were only 15 guests total. The ceremony was at the historic St. Mary's Chapel in downtown Charlotte. The reception was held at the Dunhill Hotel also in Charlotte. Small, quick and fun; it was a great wedding!

Jeff & Jennifer's Snowy Wedding In Old Town Alexandria

I typically like to let my images do my talking for me but the story of this wedding definitely deserves told. This was the worst snow storm in December in Washington, DC's history. I've never seen anything like it and I've never shot a wedding under such strenuous conditions. The weather reports from the night before were looking pretty bleak so I decided to get a room in the Hilton in Old Town Alexandria where Jennifer (the bride) was staying. It was a good thing I did! Almost all of the vendors canceled due to the terrible conditions. Even the church canceled on them. Since they are catholic they needed to get married in a church. After a lot of time spent on the phone trying to get the wedding back together one of the family members walked about a mile in the snow to the nearest catholic church (St. Mary's). When she arrived the priest was busy shoveling the front walk, trying to keep ahead of the snow. After hearing the story, the priest was happy to mary them. So all the guests and bridal party piled into available SUVs and shuttled to the church. The ceremony went off with out a hitch. Then everybody shuttled back to the hotel where the bridesmaids had found a DJ willing to tackle the storm and luckily the hotel was able to cater the reception. Only about half the guests made it to but everybody that was there had a lot of fun and will definitely remember this wedding! It was amazing, and made for some great photos...

Florida Trip

My dad and I drove down to my grandparent's place in Florida. Along the way we decided to make a stop in Savannah, Georgia. The large buildings were once warehouses for the cotton industry in the 1800's.

Trip To Centralia, PA

My brother and his friends, Rhys and Sam, wanted to go to Centralia, Pennsylvania. Centralia was a mining town it the 40's and 50's until the mine caught fire. Today the fire is still burning underground and the town is abandoned. This was the basis of the video games and the movie "Silen Hill". On our way there we stopped at the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

On the way back we stopped in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and I photographed the New York Fire Zouaves monument there. They were a regiment of New York City firefighters who fought in that famous battle.

This street is abandoned because the fire is burning so close to the surface that the street is collapsing. Even though it was around 10 degrees outside, the street was hot to the touch.
